Binance, SEC Agree to Keep US Customers' Assets in Country Until Resolution of Lawsuit
Post Image
Binance, the world's biggest cryptocurrency exchange, and Binance.US have entered into an agreement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to ensure that U.S. customer assets remain in the United States until a sweeping lawsuit filed this month by the regulatory agency is resolved. The agreement, disclosed in court papers filed late on Friday, still requires the approval of the federal judge overseeing the litigation. To make certain that U.S. customer assets do not go offshore, the agreement allows only Binance.US employees access to these assets. The SEC on June 5 sued Binance, its CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao and Binance.US's operator, alleging that Binance artificially inflated its trading volumes, diverted customer funds, failed to restrict U.S. customers from its platform and misled investors about its market surveillance controls. The suit and one filed by the SEC the following day against major U.S. exchange Coinbase represented a dramatic escalation of a crackdown on the industry by U.S. regulators. Under the agreement, which does not resolve the SEC lawsuit, Binance.US will take steps to make sure that no Binance Holdings officials have access to private keys for its various wallets, hardware wallets or root access to Binance.US's Amazon Web Services tools, the court filings showed. The SEC said in a statement released on Saturday that the emergency relief order secured for Binance.US customers will protect their assets and ensure that they can continue to withdraw those assets. "Given that Changpeng Zhao and Binance have control of the platforms' customers' assets and have been able to commingle customer assets or divert customer assets as they please ... these prohibitions are essential to protecting investor assets," Gurbir Grewal, director of the SEC's enforcement division, said in the statement. A Binance spokesperson said in a statement on Saturday: "Although we maintain that the SEC's request for emergency relief was entirely unwarranted, we are pleased that the disagreement over this request was resolved on mutually acceptable terms. User funds have been and always will be safe and secure on all Binance-affiliated platforms." Under other provisions in the proposed agreement, Binance.US will create new crypto wallets to which the global exchange's employees have no access, provide additional information to the SEC and agreed to an expedited discovery schedule, the filings said. The U.S. affiliate of Binance halted dollar deposits last week and gave customers a deadline of June 13 to withdraw their dollar funds, after SEC asked a court to freeze its assets. © Thomson Reuters 2023  (This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.)

YouTube Music’s Popup Alert Fagging Explicit Content Is Hindering Playback: Report
Post Image
YouTube is taking active steps to ensure that its users are not exposed to any content that may harm them or trigger thoughts related to self-harm or suicide. The alert that flags such content on YouTube Music, however, is beginning to obstruct playback leading to complaints flooding social networking platforms. The issue is occurring on both mobile and Web apps of YouTube Music, as users have claimed in recent days. According to a report on Android Police, YouTube Music is giving a content warning prompt to listeners if the song queued to be played next contains explicit references. The prompt halts streaming and brings music to a halt, as reported by several reddit users on a YouTube Music Sub Reddit thread cited in the report. The issue seems to be plaguing listers using Bluetooth headphones for music. “I was very happy with YouTube music until it started to ‘warn' me about themes of suicide and violence. Now I need to accept the warning which leads to the playlist stopping. This only happens with my BT Headset and not my car for whatever reason,” Redditor u/Sherbert-Vast posted on the r/YouTubeMusic thread. Screenshots of this pop-up have also been shared by irritated YouTube Music users. “Viewer discretion is advised: The following content may contain suicide or self-harm topics,” the content warning prompt reads, giving them options to either cancel or confirm. Until the users do not respond to this notification, the playback on YouTube Music reportedly does not resume. The complaining users have further noted that they cannot seem to find a way to disable this pop-up alert. Despite keeping the Restricted Mode deactivated on YouTube Music's settings, the warnings continue to keep making appearances. As of now, YouTube Music, which has around 80 million users globally, has not addressed these user grievances. In March, YouTube Music began showing song credits and detailed album information. A ‘View Song Credits' option was reportedly rolled-out as part of the in-built choices YouTube Music gives its users — like the option to add the song to the playlist or to share it with others via social networking platforms. YouTube Music also plans to add a podcast-focused service to its offerings in a bid to strengthen its position as a competitor to Spotify. Earlier this year, Kai Chuk, the head of podcasting at YouTube, revealed the platform's podcast-related plans during a recent event. For now, Chuk skipped on providing an exact timeline for the rollout of YouTube's planned podcast services.

Jack Dorsey Pledges $5 Million Towards Growth, Development of Bitcoin Ecosystem: Details
Post Image
A lot was said about the Bitcoin ecosystem being left behind in the game when the Etheruem blockchain transitioned into an eco-friendly proof-of-stake (PoS) mining model last year. While Bitcoin has managed to maintain its hegemony in the crypto kingdom, the Bitcoin blockchain ecosystem still has a margin to compete with the likes of other popular blockchains like Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon. Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has decided to pledge $5 million (roughly Rs. 41 crore) to support the development of the overall Bitcoin ecosystem. Dorsey's grant-making organisation called Start Small will be wiring yearly amount of $1 million (roughly Rs. 8 crore) to Brink, a Bitcoin-focussed non-profit organisation over the period of five years, a report by CryptoPotato said. Bitcoin is a promising “truly censorship resistant” technology, Dorsey had said in a recent tweet earlier this week. Bitcoin and nostr are the only two truly censorship resistant technologies at scale. https://t.co/0O1oihSRaz Bitcoin, unlike many other blockchains, is not headed by one founder, foundation, or organisation with a financial stake. Charity and donations directed towards Bitcoin developers help them maintain and advance its codebase. The Bitcoin blockchain is public. Despite the anonymity of the users, all transactions on the network are accessible to the public, making it difficult to hack or cheat the system. Decentralised in nature, the Bitcoin network is distributed and has thousands of nodes all over the world that keep track of all transactions being initiated on the system. This reportedly ensures that in case something goes wrong on one server, there are others to pick up the slack. Hacking into any one server is pointless. Previously also, Dorsey has donated funds to grow the Bitcoin ecosystem. In 2021, Dorsey along with singer, rapper Jay-Z initiated a trust fund to propagate Bitcoin development in India and South Africa. The trust fund was worth BTC 500 or $13 million (roughly Rs. 110 crore). In fact, last year, the former Twitter chief also launched a fund to help BTC developers deal with lawsuits. Brink, meanwhile, was founded in 2020 with generous financial support from John Pfeffer and Wences Casares “Brink exists to strengthen the Bitcoin protocol and network through fundamental research and development, and to support the Bitcoin developer community through funding, education, and mentoring,” the official website of Brink says about itself. Funded 100 percent by donations and BTC enthusiasts, Brink aims to support and mentor new contributors to open-source Bitcoin development through its fellowship program. As of now, Bitcoin developers have not said if they are looking to transition Bitcoin's Proof-of-Work mining model into a more energy efficient PoS mode.

The phone could be a rebadged version of the OnePlus Ace 2V, which was launched in China earlier this year. The smartphone has a 6.74-inch 2.5D AMOLED display with a full-HD+ resolution. It gets three rear cameras including a 64-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. A 16-megapixel camera is in charge of selfies.
