Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, GeForce RTX 4060 With Ray Tracing, DLSS 3 Support Launched in India
Post Image
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti were launched by the company on Thursday as the company's latest graphics cards built on the current-gen Ada Lovelace architecture. The more powerful GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is available in 8GB and 16GB memory configurations, while the RTX 4060 model is available with 8GB of memory. Both models support Nvidia's deep learning super sampling (DLSS) for over 300 games as well as upcoming titles such as The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and Diablo IV. The company says that the new GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics card is 1.7 times faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti model. It is equipped with 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6 video memory, along with 32MB of L2 cache. Meanwhile, the GeForce RTX 4060 model has 24MB of L2 cache and is available in a single 8GB memory configuration. The company says these chips are aimed at gamers, video editors, 3D artists, and other content creators such as broadcasters, who will see 40 percent better encoding efficiency, with the eighth NVENC video encoder from Nvidia. Similarly, 3D artists will see 45 percent faster performance over last year's RTX 3060 GPU series, according to Nvidia. Pricing for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti starts at Rs. 41,000 for the model with 8GB of video memory, and will go on sale on May 24. The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB variant is priced at Rs. 51,000 and will go on sale in July, along with the RTX 4060 GPU with 8GB of memory, which is priced at Rs. 31,000. For comparison, pricing for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti starts at Rs. 80,000 while the RTX 4070 starts at Rs. 62,000. Nvidia says that the new GPUs based on the company's Ada Lovelace architecture are equipped with third-generation ray tracing (RT) cores and fourth-generation Tensor cores — the latter are aimed at speeding up artificial intelligence tasks, including Nvidia's own framerate-multiplying DLSS 3 technology. The firm says it has added improvements like shader execution reordering, opacity micromap, and displaced micro-mesh engines to improve ray tracing performance over the previous generation. Earlier this year, Nvidia announced its GeForce RTX 4070 Ti desktop GPU in January at CES 2023, months after the company "unlaunched" its GeForce RTX 4080 (12GB) model following negative press and consumer protests. The new GeForce RTX 4070 Ti GPU, which is also based on the Ada Lovelace architecture like the GeForce RTX 4060 series, had a much lower price at launch compared to the previous product that was "unlaunched" by the company.

Swiggy Says Its Food Delivery Business Turned Profitable in March
Post Image
On-demand convenience platform Swiggy's food delivery business has turned profitable, making it one of the very few global players in the sector to achieve such a feat in less than nine years since inception, company CEO and Co-founder Sriharsha Majety said on Thursday. Bullish on India's journey of eating out and food delivery, Majety, in a blogpost, said, Swiggy is "very sanguine about the growth potential over the next two decades" and would continue to drive further growth in food delivery. "Our sharp focus on innovation, coupled with strong execution has led to yet another milestone. As of March 2023, Swiggy's food delivery business has turned profitable (after factoring in all corporate costs; excluding employee stock option costs)," he wrote. Further, Majety said, "This is a milestone for food delivery globally, not just for us, as Swiggy has become one of the very few global food delivery platforms to achieve profitability in less than nine years since its inception." The company expects to reach more such milestones in the coming quarters, he added. He applauded all the partners of the company in helping it achieve the milestone, adding that Swiggy has a strong relationship with its customers with "industry-best NPS (net promoter scores), repeat and retention rates." "We continue to make strides in gaining customer favour, including strong traction in Tier 2 and 3 markets. Our teams are more in sync than ever with restaurant partners to improve their experience with Swiggy and create mutual wins. As a result, our restaurant NPS has improved by over 100 percent in the past eight quarters," Majety said. The company CEO noted that when Swiggy started off in 2014, with food delivery its first foray and core offering, on-demand food delivery experience was new and broken and many viewed it as an unviable business model. On the road ahead, he said, "We strongly believe it is still very early days in India's journey of eating out and food delivery, and are very sanguine about the growth potential over the next two decades. We will continue to make responsible and measured interventions to fuel further growth in food delivery." There are many underserved geographic and consumer segments, he pointed out, adding, "our goal remains to outpace industry growth by continuously investing in the right levers". While the investments in food delivery are starting to pay off successfully, Majety said, Swiggy is "also very excited about the trajectory of our quick commerce business, Instamart". After building the category from the grounds up, and making "disproportionate investments in Instamart given the attractiveness of the consumer proposition and its strategic importance to us", he said, "The peak of our investments is behind us and today, Instamart is one of the leading players in the quick commerce space globally." In addition, he said, "We've also made strong progress on the profitability of the business and we're on track to hit contribution neutrality for this 3-year-old business in the next few weeks." On Dineout, which Swiggy acquired last year that enabled it to cater to consumers for every food occasion — either delivery or dining out, he said, "Today, Dineout is fully integrated within Swiggy and is the leader in the dining out category with more than 21,000 restaurant partners across 34 cities." Majety's blogpost comes two days after US-based asset management firm Baron Capital Group reduced its valuation of Swiggy by 34 percent to $7.1 billion (roughly Rs. 58,624 crore) as of December 2022.

WhatsApp Android Beta Reveals iOS-Like Message Context Menu in Development: Report
Post Image
WhatsApp has been spotted working on a redesigned message menu for the Android version of the popular messaging app. The upcoming menu will reportedly be similar to the context menu for selected messages on iOS. The menu is said to display five options after long-pressing on a specific message. The latest development is spotted on WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.23.11.4 update. WhatsApp's redesigned message menu is under development and is likely to be made available in a future Beta update. Last month the messaging app was also spotted working on iPhone-like UI for Android. According to a report by WhatsApp development tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a redesigned message menu for Android. The report suggests that the upcoming message menu will appear similar to the context menu on WhatsApp for iOS. The new update will enable users to quickly choose actions for a selected message. The update tracker has also shared a screenshot of the upcoming message menu showing five options Delete, Forward, Reply, Keep and Info are displayed below a selected message. Currently, users are shown six options -- Delete, Forward, Reply, Star, Info, and Copy at the top of the chat window after a message is selected. Additionally, emoji reactions also appear on the selected message. The new message menu was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.11.4 update. However, there's no word from WhatsApp on when this improvement will be made available to beta testers. As with all features that are in development, the company could eventually roll it out as part of a beta update before it arrives on the stable channel or simply drop the feature altogether. Meanwhile, the instant messaging app was recently spotted working on an iOS-like user interface improvement, with a redesigned bottom bar for the Android app. The new UI is said to appear similar to WhatsApp for iOS making it easier for users to switch from Android to iOS and vice versa. It could also offer users quick access to chats, calls, communities, and status updates right from the navigation bar, which could make one-handed navigation easier on phones with large displays.

Google Agrees to Pay $39.9 Million Over Lawsuit for Misleading Location Tracking Practices
Post Image
Google will pay Washington state $39.9 million (nearly Rs. 330 crore) to resolve a lawsuit accusing the Alphabet unit of misleading consumers about its location tracking practices, state Attorney General Bob Ferguson said on Thursday. The settlement resolves claims that Google deceived people into believing they controlled how the search and advertising company collected and used their personal data. In reality, the state said Google was able to collect and profit from that data even if consumers disabled its tracking technology on their smartphones and computers, invading consumers' privacy. A consent decree filed on Wednesday in King County Superior Court requires Google to be more transparent about its tracking practices, and provide a more detailed "Location Technologies" webpage describing them. "Today's resolution holds one of the most powerful corporations accountable for its unethical and unlawful tactics," Ferguson said in a statement. Google, based in Mountain View, California, denied wrongdoing in agreeing to settle. In November, Google agreed to pay $391.5 million (nearly Rs. 3,240 crore) to resolve similar allegations by 40 US states. Some states including Washington chose to sue Google on their own about its tracking practices. Arizona reached an $85 million (nearly Rs. 703 crore) settlement with Google last October in one of those cases. In response to the Washington settlement, Google referred to its earlier statement on the multistate accord, where it said it had addressed various concerns raised by regulators, including "outdated product policies that we changed years ago." © Thomson Reuters 2023
