Apple Watch Ultra 2023 to Be Manufactured With 3D Printed Parts: Ming-Chi Kuo
Post Image
Apple is said to be working on the second generation of Apple Watch Ultra, which will succeed the Apple Watch Ultra unveiled last year in September. The timeline for the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra second generation has not been announced yet. A previous report suggested that the next Watch Ultra could be launched in 2026. Now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has given some new insights about the design of the upcoming smartwatch from Apple, along with the names of the key suppliers for the components. In a post published on Medium, Kuo claimed that Apple could be adopting 3D printing technology for its upcoming Apple Watch Ultra. The wearable is said to get 3D-printed mechanical parts including the digital crown, side button, and action button. These parts are currently built using a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) process. He also added while 3D printing too will have to go through the CNC process for back-end processes, it is said to save money on production costs for Apple. It is also likely to speed up the manufacturing process at the same time. The post also reveals that IPG Photonics is the exclusive supplier of laser components, while Farsoon and BLT will be the printer suppliers for 3D-printed mechanical parts for the 2023 Apple Watch Ultra. The rumors and speculations around the smartwatch keep doing rounds on the internet and as per a recent report, the 2nd generation of the Apple Watch Ultra could be the first to have the microLED feature in its segment. MicroLEDs, or rather their components, are a hundred times smaller than normal LEDs. Hence, they are time taking and logistically more complicated to assemble which could also affect the production process. Apple is said to introduce the microLED display for all their devices including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Last month, Apple introduced watchOS 10, its latest operating system for Apple Watch models, at Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5. The watchOS update comes with several new upgrades like redesigned apps, a new Smart Stack to display relevant widgets, new watch faces, and more.

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus Colour Options Tipped; Once Again Said to Get Dynamic Island
Post Image
iPhone 15 series is expected to launch soon including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The lineup is expected to succeed the iPhone 14 series, which was released in September 2022. The non-pro models have been tipped to feature 48-megapixel rear camera sensors and come with the Dynamic Island feature from the iPhone 14 Pro lineup. Now, a tipster has suggested the new colour options that the iPhone 15 lineup could launch with. A tweet by tipster ShrimpApplePro (@VNchocoTaco) citing a Weibo post screenshot by an alleged Foxconn employee, suggests that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to launch in Green, Midnight, Pink, Product (RED), Starlight and Yellow colour options. This backs up an earlier report, which claimed that the models will see the launch of a new cyan-green colour variant, similar to the green option of the iPhone 12 series. The report added that the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus models are likely to come with frosted glass backs, instead of the usual glossy ones, making them similar in appearance to the higher-end, more expensive Pro models. Another feature the standard iPhone 15 lineup is likely to borrow from the iPhone 15 Pro handsets is the Dynamic Island feature. As stated earlier, this was previously tipped and has been suggested again in the most recent leak by the alleged Apple assembler employee. Now, the latest leak also reiterates that the base iPhone 15 lineup will feature USB Type-C charging ports, and this is somewhat of an open secret by now. Apple had already confirmed that it will oblige to the new EU regulations and adopt USB Type-C ports, replacing its lightning ports. Even though it is speculated that the company will only allow fast charging and high-speed data transfer with company-certified cables.  Notably, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are currently being offered in Blue, Midnight, Purple, Product (RED), Starlight and Yellow colour options. The handsets start at Rs. 79,900 and  Rs. 89,900, respectively, in India.

Leaked live images of the book-style Galaxy Z Fold 5 suggest that once opened, it will sport thin bezels on the sides and a thick chin at the bottom. The back is seen to hold three camera units placed within a slightly raised camera module and an LED flash unit outside of it. The images also show a near gapless folding design, three mics, and a speaker grille. The latest leaked hands-on video and images of the dummy units of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 have shown a larger folder-shaped outer display with two camera units but the much-anticipated waterdrop hinge seemed to be missing from the clamshell foldable model. The volume rocker and power button with integrated fingerprint sensor are seen to be placed on the right edge of the phone and the SIM card tray slot is on the left. The bottom edge appears to house a USB Type-C charging port.  Both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 have been tipped to use the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The phones are also expected to support NFC, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and come with a USB Type-C 3.2 port. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 were said to feature an IP58 rating for dust and water resistance, but a later leak contradicted those claims suggesting that the foldables will continue to be IPX8-rated for splash resistance like the current Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Nicolas Cage to Skip Fantasia Film Festival Amidst Hollywood Actors' Strike
Post Image
Hollywood star Nicolas Cage will not attend Fantasia Film Festival, billed as one of North America's biggest genre festivals, following the strike called by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Cage was due to attend the festival in Montreal, Canada, on July 22 for the world premiere of director Yuval Adler's Sympathy for the Devil, where he was scheduled to receive Fantasia's Cheval Noir career achievement award. Fantasia, which runs from July 20 to August 9, shared the update on its official website. Last week, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) voted to team up with the screenwriters under the Writers Guild of America (WGA) in the first joint strike after failing to reach a consensus for a new contract with the studios and streaming services, represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). "We're sad to announce that due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Nicolas Cage will no longer be able to attend the festival next weekend. We'll be updating our website regularly as we receive news from other announced guests while circumstances evolve. Our hearts are with the actors, as well as with the WGA, and we hope to see the unions get a fair deal soon," the festival organisers said in the statement. Following the confirmation of the SAG strike on July 13, Judy Greer, star of Aporia, one of Fantasia's other high-profile premieres, did not appear to be available for interview by American entertainment outlet Variety. Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Florence Pugh - the cast of Christopher Nolan's much anticipated film Oppenheimer - left the film's London screening midway in solidarity with the strike called by the Hollywood's actors union. Recently, actors Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas voiced their support with their protesting colleagues. The strike by Hollywood actors is the first strike since 1980. It is also the first instance when two major Hollywood unions have been on strike at the same time since 1960. Members of the WGA have been protesting since early May, demanding better wages, higher minimum pay, more writers per show, and shorter exclusive contracts among other things.
